California State Parks, Parks California, and SF Parks Alliance hosted the second annual Kite By The Bay festival at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (SRA) Sunday, October 27.

Hundreds of people from the local community joined in the fun for the free family-friendly event. Local organizations like Bayview Hunters Point Mobilization for Adolescent Growth in our Communities (BMAGIC), California Academy of Sciences and California State Parks Foundation tabled and provided resources to the community. The San Francisco Public Library provided games, free books, an opportunity to apply for a library card and check out books onsite from their roving book mobile.

Tree Frog Treks brought their reptile ambassadors for families to meet and learn more about various lizards, snakes and turtles. Participants could color provided kites and then fly them high in the sky. In addition to dozens of kites, music was also in the air from DJ BeatsMe. Kids could be seen rocking face paint as they explored the park. 600 pumpkins created a free pumpkin patch and added fall décor. Some attendees even painted their pumpkins with vibrant and intricate designs before taking them home. The Candlestick team cannot wait for their next event to bring smiles to the community.
