Radio & Broadcast opportunities: Art Installation & Community-Centered Mural Creation Event at state park in Bayview/San Francisco
WHAT: California State Parks’ Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (SRA) and Parks California are hosting a free community event called Growing Together Day to celebrate this unique 252-acre urban oasis and vital state park.
People of all ages are invited to participate in a live art installation and community-centered mural creation led by local resident and muralist Joe Colmenares. Colmenares will paint new murals on two buildings near the Pelican Picnic area and invite members of the community to paint with him. Colmenares will be available for media interviews.
Representatives from California State Parks and Parks California will be available for media interviews and can discuss how the two groups are partnering to make Candlestick Point SRA a more welcoming environment for the community of Bayview and beyond.
State Park representatives can also share Candlestick Point’s history of becoming California’s first urban State Recreation Area in 1977, including the prevailing efforts of San Francisco residents who organized in the name of environmental justice to ensure the area evolved into a park open to all following its transition from historic wetlands to landfill.
Growing Together Day is a free day of music, performances, interactive activities, community-based non-profit displays, and food provided by local organizations.
