ABOUT THE ROLE

Now in the fifth operating year with a new strategic plan to guide the next phase of growth, we are looking for a Staff Accountant to join the team. In this role, you will report to the Finance Manager and work closely with the entire ParksCA team to help the organization succeed in strengthening its financial position and to successfully meet the day-to-day operational goals. The Staff Accountant is responsible for moderately complex accounting activities related to the maintenance of the general ledger.

OFFICE LOCATION

We are a remote-first organization; however, candidates must reside in California. This allows us to work from anywhere in California virtually, in our Sacramento and San Francisco hubs, as well as in some of the most beautiful natural spaces across the state.    

THE POSITION

  • Support all day-to-day accounting functions and drive month-end and quarter-end closing procedures, ensuring all transactions for the monthly and quarterly period are accounted for.
  • Perform the processing of cash receipts and the recording of revenue and receivables.
  • Perform the processing, recording, and approving, when appropriate, of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all grant awards, invoices, credit card transactions and staff reimbursements are paid timely and accurately and in accordance with finance policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc journal entry imports into the accounting system, and perform all account reconciliations (bank/cash, liabilities/credit cards, investments, fixed assets, prepaids, payroll accruals).
  • Ensure that all transaction details are thorough and consistent month over month, and that they are in alignment with our policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with year-end close, annual audit preparation, and 990 tax return reporting.
  • Oversee the management of the vendor files, W-9’s, and the annual distribution of 1099’s.
  • Ensure all financial related documentation is timely retrieved and stored in the designated file locations in a consistent and organized manner.
  • Participate in workflow improvements to increase timeliness, efficiency, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate financial reports for ParksCA staff as needed.
  • Work closely with Grants and Contracts Manager to ensure agreement compliance.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • This is a full-time, exempt position, with a salary range of $75,000 – $90,000.
  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package including a 401K plan that matches up to 5% without a waiting period, $150 per month reimbursement for home Internet service and mobile phone service, and an annual pass to California State Parks.
  • We provide 20 days paid vacation to start which increases over time (23 days after 2 years, and 28 days after 10 years); 10 paid sick days, 13 paid holidays, and a flexible, family-friendly schedule.
