Free Event at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area on Saturday, May 18

Growing Together Day includes Activities For All Ages, Art Installation with Community-Centered Mural Creation

WHEN: Saturday, May 18 community event from Noon – 4 p.m. PDT

WHAT: California State Parks and Parks California will host a free community celebration at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (SRA), called Growing Together Day, to celebrate this unique 252-acre urban oasis and vital state park.

The free event will feature family-friendly activities for kids and adults, guided walks, fishing opportunities, kite decorating, a live DJ, free local food, and interactive and educational stations from community organizations, such as Tree Frog Treks, Literacy for Environmental Justice, California State Parks Foundation, the Book Mobile from the San Francisco Public Library, SF Environment, Randall Museum, Tzu Chi Foundation, Nature in the City, and Crosstown Trail.  

People of all ages are invited to participate in a live art installation and community-centered mural creation led by local Bayview resident and muralist Joe Colmenares. Colmenares will paint a Monarch Butterfly mural on a wind panel located at Wind Harp Hill Picnic Area and invite members of the community to paint it with him. 

Representatives from California State Parks and Parks California will be available for media interviews and can discuss how the two groups are partnering to make Candlestick Point SRA a more welcoming environment for the community of Bayview and beyond.

Park entrance is 300 ft past Candlestick RV Park (see map below). We will cone off designated parking spots for media trucks.

  • Park goers enjoying a variety of recreational opportunities including windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, picnicking, biking, and bird watching – weather dependent
