Watching the destruction and devastation take hold of our great state in real-time upends our sense of place. Home is more than a building of course, it’s our neighborhood places, it’s our outdoor spaces—like state parks—and it’s the people with whom our lives are built. Seeing those people in peril and those places that were built with joy succumb to fire is overwhelming.
Many of our friends and neighbors across Southern California are facing deep grief, fear and the unknown. We stand with them. And we honor our local and state partners for the heroic work they are doing now and the work that we will face together in the coming weeks, months and years.
It is all too common for information to move more quickly than can be verified during times of crisis, leading to misinformation and disinformation running unchecked.
In partnership with California State Parks and our statewide network of partners and grantees, Parks California is committed to providing access to reliable, updated information about the wildfire crisis. Through Parks California’s email and social media channels, we will continue to provide updated information and resources as available. We stand ready to take up the mantle alongside the State Parks team to nurture the affected parks. Together, we will reimagine the evolving, vital role these parks, and the entire State Parks ecosystem, own as hubs for our communities to thrive.
